H.F. _____ Section 1. Section 483A.8, Code 2019, is amended by adding 1 the following new subsection: 2 NEW SUBSECTION . 9. The commission shall adopt a rule 3 permitting a resident to use a crossbow for taking deer during 4 the late split archery season that is designated for taking 5 deer by bow and arrow. 6 EXPLANATION 7 The inclusion of this explanation does not constitute agreement with 8 the explanation’s substance by the members of the general assembly. 9 Under current law, a crossbow is a legal method of take 10 when hunting deer during the late muzzleloader season, during 11 bow season if the hunter is over the age of 70, or by certain 12 individuals who are incapable of using a bow and arrow under 13 the conditions in which a bow and arrow is permitted, with 14 the applicable license depending on the situation.
