H.F. _____ Section 1. Section 154C.3, subsection 3, Code 2019, is 1 amended to read as follows: 2 3. License renewal and continuing education. Licenses 3 shall be renewed biennially, and licensees shall pay a fee for 4 renewal as determined by the board and shall present evidence 5 satisfactory to the board that the licensee has satisfied 6 continuing education requirements as determined by the board. 7 The board shall not limit the number of continuing education 8 credits that may be obtained online in satisfying continuing 9 education requirements, provided that any program providing 10 continuing education credits online shall comply with standards 11 set by the board. 12 Sec. 2. Section 154D.3, subsection 1, paragraph e, Code 13 2019, is amended to read as follows: 14 e. Educational activities which fulfill continuing education 15 requirements for license renewals. The board shall not limit 16 the number of continuing education credits that may be obtained 17 online by marital and family therapists or mental health 18 counselors in fulfilling continuing education requirements, 19 provided that any program providing continuing education 20 credits online shall comply with standards set by the board. 21 EXPLANATION 22 The inclusion of this explanation does not constitute agreement with 23 the explanation’s substance by the members of the general assembly. 24 This bill relates to continuing education requirements for 25 licensed social workers, marital and family therapists, and 26 mental health counselors. The bill prohibits the board of 27 social work from limiting the number of continuing education 28 credits that social workers may obtain online and the board 29 of behavioral science from limiting the number of continuing 30 education credits that marital and family therapists and mental 31 health counselors may obtain online.
