H.F. 599 Section 1. Section 483A.24, subsection 8, Code 2019, is 1 amended to read as follows: 2 8. A resident of the state person under sixteen years of 3 age is not required to have a hunting license to hunt game if 4 accompanied by the minor’s parent or guardian or in company 5 with any other competent adult with the consent of the minor’s 6 parent or guardian, if the person accompanying the minor 7 possesses a valid hunting license; however, there must be one 8 licensed adult accompanying each person under sixteen years 9 of age. The minor must have a deer hunting license to hunt 10 deer and a wild turkey hunting license to hunt wild turkey. 11 This subsection is not restricted by the provisions of section 12 483A.31. 13 EXPLANATION 14 The inclusion of this explanation does not constitute agreement with 15 the explanation’s substance by the members of the general assembly. 16 Under current law, a resident who is under 16 years old is 17 not required to have a license to hunt game if the minor is 18 accompanied by the minor’s parent, guardian, or other competent 19 adult with consent from the minor’s parent or guardian and the 20 person accompanying the minor has a valid hunting license. 21 This bill allows any person under 16 years of age to hunt 22 game without a license while accompanied by the minor’s 23 parent, guardian, or other competent adult with the parent 24 or guardian’s consent and the accompanying adult has a valid 25 hunting license. Any person hunting deer must still have a 26 valid deer hunting license and any person hunting wild turkey 27 must still have a valid wild turkey hunting license. The 28 provisions of the bill are not restricted by a nonresident’s 29 state’s failure to provide reciprocal benefits to Iowa 30 residents. 31 -1- LSB 1952HV (3) 88 js/rn 1/ 1
