A retailer shall require the presenter of a check, as 3 a condition of check cashing or acceptance of the check in 4 connection with the purchase of any goods or services, to 5 present a valid government-issued photo identification card 6 that identifies the presenter as the issuer of the check. 7 2. For purposes of this section: 8 a. “Check” means the same as defined in section 203.1. 9 b. “Check cashing” means the same as defined in section 10 529.1. 11 c. “Retailer” means the same as defined in section 423.1. 12 EXPLANATION 13 The inclusion of this explanation does not constitute agreement with 14 the explanation’s substance by the members of the general assembly. 15 This bill provides that a retailer shall require a presenter 16 of a check to present a valid government-issued identification 17 card that identifies the presenter as the issuer of the check, 18 as a condition of check cashing or acceptance of the check 19 for the purchase of any goods or services.
