persons

whom
a
residency
position
is
awarded
the

opportunity
to
participate
in
a
rural
rotation
to
expose
the

resident
to
the
rural
areas
of
the
state.

Sec.
3.
FEDERAL
RESIDENCY
POSITIONS
——
PREFERENCE
FOR
15
CERTAIN
CANDIDATES.
The
university
of
Iowa
hospitals
and
16
clinics
shall
give
priority
in
awarding
federal
residency
17
positions
as
established
under
the
federal
Balanced
Budget
Act
18
of
1997,
Pub.
L.
No.
105-33,
to
applicants
who
are
residents
19
of
Iowa,
attended
and
earned
an
undergraduate
degree
from
an
20
Iowa
college
or
university,
or
attended
and
earned
a
medical
21
degree
from
a
medical
school
in
Iowa.
The
university
of
Iowa
22
hospitals
and
clinics
shall
also
provide
persons
to
whom
such
a
23
residency
position
is
awarded
the
opportunity
to
participate
in
24
a
rural
rotation
to
expose
the
resident
to
rural
areas
of
the
25
state.

The
inclusion
of
this
explanation
does
not
constitute
agreement
with

the
explanation’s
substance
by
the
members
of
the
general
assembly.

This
bill
provides
that
for
the
medical
residency
training
30
state
matching
grants
program
and
for
the
awarding
by
the
31
university
of
Iowa
hospitals
and
clinics
of
federal
residency
32
positions
as
established
under
the
federal
Balanced
Budget
Act
33
of
1997,
priority
shall
be
given
to
eligible
applicants
who
are
34
residents
of
Iowa,
attended
and
earned
an
undergraduate
degree

The
bill
also
