H.F. 495 Section 1. STATE VOTER IDENTIFICATION LAWS —— PUBLIC 1 AWARENESS CAMPAIGN —— APPROPRIATION —— REPORT. 2 1. There is appropriated from the general fund of the state 3 to the office of the secretary of state for the fiscal year 4 beginning July 1, 2019, and ending June 30, 2020, the following 5 amount, or so much thereof as is necessary, to be used for the 6 purposes designated: 7 For the public purpose of developing and administering a 8 public awareness campaign as specified in this section: 9 . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . $ 100,000 10 2. The moneys appropriated in this section shall be used 11 to support a statewide campaign to increase public awareness 12 of the state’s voter identification laws as amended by 2017 13 Iowa Acts, chapter 110, and to increase and promote voter 14 participation amongst Iowans with disabilities. 15 3. The office of the secretary of state shall submit 16 a report regarding the details and outcomes of the public 17 awareness campaign to the governor and the general assembly by 18 October 1, 2020. 19 EXPLANATION 20 The inclusion of this explanation does not constitute agreement with 21 the explanation’s substance by the members of the general assembly. 22 This bill appropriates $100,000 from the general fund 23 of the state to the office of the secretary of state for 24 FY 2019-2020 for the public purpose of developing and 25 administering a statewide public awareness campaign to increase 26 public awareness of state voter identification laws and to 27 increase and promote voter participation amongst Iowans with 28 disabilities.
