H.F. 375 Section 1. Section 136A.5, subsection 1, Code 2019, is 1 amended to read as follows: 2 1. a. All newborns born in this state shall be screened 3 for congenital and inherited disorders in accordance with rules 4 adopted by the department. 5 b. The department shall expand the newborn metabolic 6 screening panel to include, no later than January 1, 2020, 7 Mucopolysaccharidosis type 1, Glycogen storage disease type II 8 (Pompe), and spinal muscular atrophy. 9 EXPLANATION 10 The inclusion of this explanation does not constitute agreement with 11 the explanation’s substance by the members of the general assembly. 12 This bill directs the department of public health, 13 specifically, not later than January 1, 2020, to expand 14 the newborn metabolic screening panel to include 15 Mucopolysaccharidosis type 1, Glycogen storage disease type II 16 (Pompe), and spinal muscular atrophy. 17 -1- LSB 1263YH (2) 88 pf/rh 1/ 1
