H.F. 37 Section 1. Section 455A.14, subsection 2, Code 2019, is 1 amended to read as follows: 2 2. a. The fees established by the department pursuant to 3 this section shall be in such amounts as may be determined 4 by the department to be reasonably competitive with fees 5 established in other public parks or recreation areas that 6 provide the same or similar privileges and are located within 7 sixty miles of the perimeter of the state park or recreation 8 area for which the department is establishing fees. Such 9 fees may be increased, reduced, or waived by the department 10 for special promotional events or efforts or on the basis of 11 special seasonal or holiday rates, on a statewide basis or on 12 the basis of an individual state park or recreation area. 13 b. If the department fixes fees for camping, use of rental 14 facilities, or other special privileges, the department shall 15 reduce such fees for residents who are sixty years of age 16 or older by at least one-half the amount of each fee fixed 17 pursuant to this section. 18 EXPLANATION 19 The inclusion of this explanation does not constitute agreement with 20 the explanation’s substance by the members of the general assembly. 21 Current law authorizes the department of natural resources 22 to establish fees for camping, using rental facilities, and 23 other special privileges at state parks and recreation areas. 24 This bill provides that if the department fixes fees for 25 camping, using rental facilities, or other special privileges, 26 such fees shall be reduced for residents who are 60 years of 27 age or older by at least half that amount. 28 -1- LSB 1408YH (1) 88 js/rn 1/ 1
