The bill allows an emergency medical care 13 provider to obtain a professional permit to carry weapons if 14 the emergency medical care provider is designated and attached 15 to a law enforcement tactical team by the authorities having 16 jurisdiction. Additionally, the emergency medical care 17 provider shall train with the law enforcement tactical team, 18 complete a firearm safety training course that qualifies a 19 peace officer to carry a firearm in the normal course of the 20 peace officer’s duties, complete any additional training as 21 prescribed by the authorities having jurisdiction, and not be 22 disqualified from obtaining a professional or nonprofessional 23 permit to carry weapons. Notwithstanding a general 24 prohibition, the bill allows an employer of an emergency 25 medical care provider to require an emergency medical care 26 provider to obtain a professional permit to carry weapons as a 27 condition of employment if the emergency medical care provider 28 accompanies police tactical teams consistent with the bill. 29 By operation of law, a professional permit to carry weapons 30 will authorize an emergency medical care provider to go armed 31 anywhere in the state only while engaged in employment and 32 while going to and from the place of employment. An emergency 33 medical care provider shall submit an application and undergo 34 a criminal history background check prior to receiving a 35 -2- LSB 5047HV (3) 88 js/rh 2/ 3
