H.F. 2486 Section 1. Section 49.57, subsection 6, Code 2020, is 1 amended to read as follows: 2 6. A portion of the ballot shall include the words “Official 3 ballot”, the unique identification number or name assigned by 4 the commissioner to the ballot style, the date of the election, 5 and the impression or likeness of the county seal of the county 6 of the commissioner who has caused the ballot to be printed 7 pursuant to section 49.51 . 8 Sec. 2. Section 331.552, subsection 4, Code 2020, is amended 9 to read as follows: 10 4. Keep the official county seal provided by the county. 11 The official seal shall be an impression seal on the face of 12 which shall appear the name of the county, the word “county” , 13 which may be abbreviated, the word “treasurer” which may be 14 abbreviated, and the word “Iowa”. 15 EXPLANATION 16 The inclusion of this explanation does not constitute agreement with 17 the explanation’s substance by the members of the general assembly. 18 This bill relates to the design and use of county seals. 19 Under current law, a county treasurer is required to keep 20 the official county seal. The official county seal shall 21 include the name of the county, the word “county”, which may be 22 abbreviated, the word “treasurer”, which may be abbreviated, 23 and the word “Iowa”. The county seal of the county of the 24 commissioner who has caused a ballot to be printed shall appear 25 on the ballot. 26 The bill strikes the requirement that the county seal 27 include the word “treasurer”.
