H.F. 2227 Section 1. NEW SECTION . 280.31 Presidential precinct 1 caucuses and general elections —— school events prohibited. 2 1. For purposes of this section, “school event” means any 3 athletic event, concert, performance, contest, tournament, 4 or similar event, but does not include regularly scheduled 5 practices or meetings of school teams or clubs. 6 2. A public or nonpublic school shall not schedule a school 7 event after the conclusion of the school day on the date of a 8 precinct caucus held as part of the presidential nominating 9 process or election day for a general election for the office 10 of governor or president of the United States. 11 EXPLANATION 12 The inclusion of this explanation does not constitute agreement with 13 the explanation’s substance by the members of the general assembly. 14 This bill prohibits a public or accredited nonpublic school 15 from scheduling any school event, as defined in the bill, after 16 the conclusion of the school day on the date of a precinct 17 caucus held as part of the presidential nominating process or 18 election day for a general election for the office of governor 19 or president of the United States. 20 -1- LSB 6001YH (3) 88 je/jh 1/ 1
