H.F. 2220 Section 1. Section 234.46, subsection 1, paragraph c, Code 1 2020, is amended to read as follows: 2 c. At the time the person became age eighteen, the person 3 received foster care services that were paid for by the state 4 under section 234.35 , services at a state training school, 5 services at a juvenile shelter care home, or services at a 6 juvenile detention home , or court-ordered care in accordance 7 with chapter 232 by a relative or another person with a 8 significant relationship with the person, and the person is no 9 longer receiving such services or care . 10 EXPLANATION 11 The inclusion of this explanation does not constitute agreement with 12 the explanation’s substance by the members of the general assembly. 13 This bill relates to the definition of “young adult” for 14 purposes of participation in the preparation for adult living 15 program (program). 16 The purpose of the program is to assist young adult persons 17 who are leaving foster care and other court-ordered services at 18 age 18 or older in making the transition to self-sufficiency. 19 The bill includes a person who, at the time the person turned 20 18 years of age, received court-ordered care in accordance 21 with Code chapter 232 by a relative or another person with a 22 significant relationship with the person, in the eligibility 23 criteria for young adult participation in the program. 24 -1- LSB 5429HV (2) 88 as/rh 1/ 1
