H.F. 2149 Section 1. Section 256.11, subsection 6, Code 2020, is 1 amended by adding the following new paragraph: 2 NEW PARAGRAPH . d. In lieu of instruction by a licensed 3 physical education teacher, instruction for the water safety 4 component of a physical education course may be provided 5 by a swim instructor certified by the young men’s or young 6 women’s Christian association, the American red cross, or 7 another nationwide organization that provides swim instructor 8 certification. 9 EXPLANATION 10 The inclusion of this explanation does not constitute agreement with 11 the explanation’s substance by the members of the general assembly. 12 This bill provides that under the state educational 13 standards, instruction for the water safety component of a 14 physical education course may be provided by a swim instructor 15 certified by the young men’s or young women’s Christian 16 association, the American red cross, or another nationwide 17 organization that provides swim instructor certification in 18 lieu of instruction by a licensed physical education teacher. 19 -1- LSB 5819HH (1) 88 je/jh 1/ 1
