of

with
the
employer.
An
employee
who
has
completed

days
of
employment
with
the
employer
prior
to
April

1,
2007,
or
January
1,
2008,
shall
earn
the
applicable
state

hourly
minimum
wage
as
of
that
date.
An
employer
shall
pay

an
employee
who
has
not
completed
ninety
sixty
calendar
days
12
of
employment
with
the
employer
an
hourly
wage
of
at
least
13
$5.30
as
of
April
1,
2007,
and
$6.35
as
of
January
1,
2008

eighty-eight
percent
of
the
applicable
state
hourly
wage

provided
in
paragraph
“a”
.

The
inclusion
of
this
explanation
does
not
constitute
agreement
with

the
explanation’s
substance
by
the
members
of
the
general
assembly.

This
bill
provides
that
the
state
minimum
hourly
wage
20
applicable
to
newly
hired
employees
is
applicable
until
an
21
employee
has
completed
60
calendar
days
of
employment
with
22
an
employer.
Under
current
law,
the
period
is
90
days.
The
23
bill
strikes
the
current
state
minimum
hourly
wage
rate
of
24
$6.35
prescribed
for
newly
hired
employees
and
instead
provides
25
that
the
state
minimum
hourly
wage
applicable
to
newly
hired
26
employees
is
88
percent
of
the
regular
state
minimum
hourly
27
wage.
28
The
bill
also
strikes
language
providing
for
a
separate
29
means
of
calculating
the
state
minimum
hourly
wage
rate
for
30
an
employee
of
a
restaurant,
hotel,
motel,
inn,
or
cabin
who
31
customarily
and
regularly
receives
more
than
$30
a
month
32
in
tips.
The
regular
state
minimum
hourly
wage
would
be
33
applicable
to
such
employees.
