Section
1.
Section
602.3101,
Code
2017,
is
amended
by
adding
1
the
following
new
subsection:

SUBSECTION

The
supreme
court
shall
supervise
the

board
and
may
review,
approve,
modify,
or
reject
any
board
4
action,
procedure,
or
decision.
The
supreme
court
may
adopt
5
rules
to
implement
this
subsection.

602.3206
Exempt
status.

If
a
person’s
certification
as
a
shorthand
reporter
is
8
placed
in
exempt
status,
the
person
may
transcribe
or
certify
9
a
proceeding
the
person
reported
while
certified
as
an
active
10
shorthand
reporter.
A
person
transcribing
or
certifying
a
11
proceeding
pursuant
to
this
section
shall
remain
subject
to
the
12
jurisdiction
of
the
board
of
examiners
of
shorthand
reporters.

The
inclusion
of
this
explanation
does
not
constitute
agreement
with

the
explanation’s

the
members

the
general
assembly.

This
bill
relates
to
the
placement
of
shorthand
reporters
in
17
exempt
status
and
to
the
supervision
of
the
board
of
examiners
18
of
shorthand
reporters.
19
The
bill
provides
that
the
supreme
court
shall
supervise
the
20
board
of
examiners
of
shorthand
reporters
and
have
authority
to
21
review,
approve,
modify,
or
reject
a
board
action,
procedure,
22
or
decision.
The
bill
also
provides
that
the
supreme
court
23
may
adopt
rules
relating
to
the
supervision
of
the
board
of
24
examiners
of
shorthand
reporters.
25
The
bill
provides
that
if
a
shorthand
reporter’s
26
certification
is
placed
in
exempt
status,
the
reporter
may
27
transcribe
or
certify
a
proceeding
that
was
reported
while
28
the
reporter
was
certified
as
an
active
shorthand
reporter.
29
A
reporter
transcribing
or
certifying
a
proceeding
while
in
30
exempt
status
shall
remain
subject
to
the
jurisdiction
of
the
31
board
of
examiners
of
shorthand
reporters.
