Senate Resolution 122 - Introduced SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 122 BY COMMITTEE ON RULES AND ADMINISTRATION A Resolution honoring Senator Wally E. Horn for 1 over four decades of service in the Iowa General 2 Assembly. 3 WHEREAS, Wally E. Horn was first elected to the 4 House of Representatives in 1972, and after five terms 5 he was elected to the Senate in 1982; and 6 WHEREAS, after serving in the United States Army 7 and working for over 30 years as a teacher, coach, 8 and facilitator in Cedar Rapids schools, Senator 9 Horn has been a champion for educational and veterans 10 issues; and 11 WHEREAS, over four decades, Senator Horn, with the 12 capable assistance of his wife, Phyllis Peterson, 13 served as Majority Leader of the Senate; as chair 14 of the Legislative Council and of the Rules and 15 Administration, Ethics, Veterans Affairs, Labor and 16 Business Relations, and Administrative Rules Review 17 committees and on a wide array of other committees, 18 currently serving on the Ethics (ranking member), State 19 Government, Transportation, Veterans Affairs (ranking 20 member), and Administrative Rules Review committees; 21 and as keeper of the candy desk; and 22 WHEREAS, Senator Horn has demonstrated a dedication 23 to civic engagement through membership and service 24 in numerous organizations including the National 25 Conference of State Legislatures Executive Committee, 26 Council of State Governments, Midwest Legislators 27 Executive Committee, Executive Board of the Democratic 28 -1- LSB 6254SV (3) 87 je/rj 1/ 2
S.R. 122 Legislative Campaign Committee, Veterans of Foreign 1 Wars, American Legion, and numerous other community 2 groups in Cedar Rapids, and as president of the Cedar 3 Rapids Teachers Association; and 4 WHEREAS, Senator Horn received the Hoover Uncommon 5 Public Service Award in 2015, which is awarded to 6 legislators who exemplify President Herbert Hoover’s 7 humanitarian efforts and have gone above and beyond 8 the call of duty to demonstrate uncommon service and 9 commitment to the people of Iowa; and 10 WHEREAS, with 46 years of service, Senator Horn is 11 the longest serving legislator in Iowa history, earning 12 the title of Dean of the Senate; NOW THEREFORE, 13 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE, That the Senate honors 14 Senator Wally E.
