Senate Resolution 115 - Introduced SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 115 BY BOWMAN , BOLKCOM , DVORSKY , KRAAYENBRINK , ZAUN , HORN , BOULTON , KINNEY , BROWN , BREITBACH , WHITVER , SCHNEIDER , HOGG , DANIELSON , ALLEN , and DOTZLER A Resolution recognizing and congratulating University 1 of Iowa Hawkeye wrestler Spencer Lee on his 2 outstanding achievements in college wrestling. 3 WHEREAS, Spencer Lee won the 2018 National 4 Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) wrestling 5 championship in the 125-pound weight class as a true 6 freshman; and 7 WHEREAS, Mr. Lee is the 55th Hawkeye wrestler in 8 program history to win an NCAA title and the first true 9 freshman from the University of Iowa to win an NCAA 10 title in 25 years; and 11 WHEREAS, Mr. Lee entered the NCAA tournament as the 12 number three seed, won five matches, and outscored his 13 opponents 60-4 to win the NCAA title; and 14 WHEREAS, Mr. Lee was awarded the 2018 Hammer Award, 15 which is presented to the champion of the toughest 16 bracket in the NCAA Championship; and 17 WHEREAS, Mr. Lee joined the University of Iowa 18 Varsity Wrestling Team on January 5, 2018, established 19 a 22-2 overall record and a 6-0 record in the Big Ten, 20 and was awarded the 2018 Big Ten Freshman of the Year 21 Award; NOW THEREFORE, 22 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE, That the Senate 23 recognizes and congratulates Spencer Lee on his 24 outstanding achievement during his freshman year as a 25 college wrestler at the University of Iowa; and 26 -1- LSB 6237XS (5) 87 asf/rn 1/ 2
