Senate Resolution 113 - Introduced SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 113 BY DOTZLER A Resolution recognizing the life and work of musician 1 and radio broadcaster Bob Dorr. 2 WHEREAS, Bob Dorr is a renowned Iowa bandleader, 3 musician, and public radio show host whose career spans 4 over 40 years; and 5 WHEREAS, Bob Dorr began his career in music 6 broadcasting on October 2, 1972, as an undergraduate 7 student at the University of Northern Iowa and student 8 broadcaster for the KUNI radio station; and 9 WHEREAS, Bob Dorr has been a bandleader for over 10 40 years, with 36 years leading, singing, and playing 11 multiple instruments in Iowa’s beloved Blue Band, 12 which has traversed the nation and recorded over 25 13 albums and has performed for 34 years at the Iowa State 14 Fair; and 15 WHEREAS, Bob Dorr has hosted radio shows on Iowa 16 Public Radio spanning every genre from classical 17 to rock and blues to folk, including shows such as 18 Progression, Folkways 1, Folkways 2, and Collage, and 19 is currently in his 8th year of hosting “Blue Avenue”, 20 in his 40th year of hosting “Beatles Medley”, and in 21 his 38th year of hosting the iconic “Backtracks”; and 22 WHEREAS, Bob Dorr was twice inducted into the Iowa 23 Rock ‘n Roll Hall of Fame, first for his radio career 24 in 2000, and then for his role as leader of the Blue 25 Band in 2007, and was also inducted into the Iowa Blues 26 Hall of Fame in 2005 and the Quad Cities Blues Hall of 27 Fame on March 11, 2018; NOW THEREFORE, 28 -1- LSB 6234SS (2) 87 js/rj 1/ 2
S.R. 113 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE, That the Senate 1 hereby recognizes musician and radio broadcaster Bob 2 Dorr as an Iowa icon, extends its profound gratitude 3 for his lifelong dedication to, and uncommon impact 4 on, the cultural landscape and history of the State 5 of Iowa, and exhorts the people of Iowa to always 6 remember and appreciate his generous and prodigious 7 contribution in the form of musical composition, live 8 music performance, artistic entrepreneurship, and radio 9 broadcasting. 10 -2- LSB 6234SS (2) 87 js/rj 2/ 2
