S.F. 402 Section 1. Section 279.61, subsection 3, Code 2017, is 1 amended to read as follows: 2 3. The superintendent of each school district shall 3 designate a team of education practitioners to carry out the 4 duties assigned to the school district under this section . 5 The team shall include but not be limited to a professional 6 school counselor; teachers, including career and technical 7 education teachers; and an individual responsible for 8 coordinating work-based learning activities. The team shall 9 regularly consult with representatives of employers, state 10 and local workforce systems and centers, higher education 11 institutions, and postsecondary career training programs. 12 A professional school counselor shall make available to 13 a student and the student’s parent or guardian, as the 14 student develops and implements a plan under this section, 15 information on apprenticeships, including but not limited to 16 local apprenticeship opportunities and programs leading to a 17 credential certifying occupational proficiency. 18 EXPLANATION 19 The inclusion of this explanation does not constitute agreement with 20 the explanation’s substance by the members of the general assembly. 21 This bill requires that a school district’s professional 22 school counselor make available to a student and a student’s 23 parent or guardian, as the student develops and implements 24 an individual career and academic plan, information on 25 apprenticeships, including local opportunities and programs 26 leading to a credential certifying occupational proficiency. 27 -1- LSB 2177XS (2) 87 kh/jh/rj 1/ 1
