The state hospitals for persons with mental illness 3 shall be designated as follows be operated and funded by the 4 state on a year-round basis in the following four locations : 5 a. (1) Mental Health Institute, Mount Pleasant, Iowa. 6 b. (2) Mental Health Institute, Independence, Iowa. 7 c. (3) Mental Health Institute, Clarinda, Iowa. 8 d. (4) Mental Health Institute, Cherokee, Iowa. 9 b. Each state hospital shall serve twenty-five counties. 10 EXPLANATION 11 The inclusion of this explanation does not constitute agreement with 12 the explanation’s substance by the members of the general assembly. 13 This bill relates to the operation of the state mental 14 health institutes. Under current Code, the state hospitals 15 for persons with mental illness are designated as mental 16 health institutes to be located in Iowa in Mount Pleasant, 17 Independence, Clarinda, and Cherokee. 18 The bill amends current law to provide that the state mental 19 health institutes shall be operated and funded by the state on 20 a year-round basis in the same locations and that each state 21 mental health institute shall serve 25 counties. 22 -1- LSB 2115XS (3) 87 hb/rh 1/ 1
