S.F. 247 Section 1. Section 279.68, subsection 5, paragraph a, 1 subparagraph (2), Code 2017, is amended to read as follows: 2 (2) Students requiring special education whose 3 individualized education program indicates does any of the 4 following: 5 (a) Indicates that participation in a locally determined or 6 statewide assessment as provided in section 256.7, subsection 7 31 , is not appropriate, consistent with the requirements 8 of rules adopted by the state board of education for the 9 administration of chapter 256B . 10 (b) Includes reading goals and the student has been 11 diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder and is considered to 12 have an intellectual disability. 13 EXPLANATION 14 The inclusion of this explanation does not constitute agreement with 15 the explanation’s substance by the members of the general assembly. 16 This bill provides that a student enrolled in a school 17 district has a good cause exemption from the retention and 18 intensive summer reading program requirements of Code section 19 279.68 if the student has an individualized education program 20 that includes reading goals and the student has been diagnosed 21 with autism spectrum disorder and is considered to have an 22 intellectual disability. 23 -1- LSB 2165SS (3) 87 kh/jh 1/ 1
