1.
Section
256.7,
subsection
26,
paragraph
a,
1
subparagraph
(1),
Code
2018,
is
amended
to
read
as
follows:

(1)
The
rules
establishing
high
school
graduation
3
requirements
shall
authorize
a
school
district
or
accredited
4
nonpublic
school
to
consider
provide
that
any
student,
at
any
5
grade
level,
who
satisfactorily
completes
a
high
school-level
6
unit
of
instruction
at
an
attendance
center
in
the
school
7
district
in
which
the
student
resides
has
satisfactorily
8
completed
a
unit
of
the
high
school
graduation
requirements
9
for
that
area
of
instruction
,
and
shall
authorize
the
school
10
district
or
accredited
nonpublic
school
to
shall
issue
high
11
school
credit
for
the
unit
to
the
student.
However,
if
the
12
student
takes
a
high
school-level
course
taught
by
a
teacher
13
licensed
under
chapter
272
who
does
not
work
for
the
school
14
district,
the
school
district
may,
but
is
not
required
to,
15
issue
high
school
credit
if
the
student
took
the
course
prior
16
to
grade
nine.

EXPLANATION
18
The
inclusion
of
this
explanation
does
not
constitute
agreement
with
19
the
explanation’s
substance
by
the
members
of
the
general
assembly.

This
bill
provides
that
under
the
state
board
of
education’s
21
rules
establishing
high
school
graduation
requirements,
any
22
student
at
any
grade
level
who
satisfactorily
completes
a
high
23
school-level
unit
of
instruction
has
satisfactorily
completed
24
a
unit
of
the
high
school
graduation
requirements
for
that
25
area
of
instruction,
and
the
board’s
rules
shall
require
the
26
school
district
to
issue
high
school
credit
to
the
student.
If
27
a
student
completes
a
high
school-level
course
prior
to
grade
28
nine
that
is
taught
by
a
licensed
teacher
who
is
not
employed
29
by
the
district,
the
school
district
may
issue
high
school
30
credit.
The
bill
eliminates
accredited
nonpublic
schools
from
31
the
provision.
