S.F. 2265 Section 1. Section 157.1, subsection 5, Code 2018, is 1 amended by adding the following new paragraph: 2 NEW PARAGRAPH . f. Shaving or trimming a beard. 3 Sec. 2. Section 157.3A, Code 2018, is amended by adding the 4 following new subsection: 5 NEW SUBSECTION . 6. Shaving or trimming a beard by means 6 of a straight edge razor shall only be performed by a licensed 7 cosmetologist trained in the use of a straight edge razor in 8 compliance with applicable rules of the board. 9 EXPLANATION 10 The inclusion of this explanation does not constitute agreement with 11 the explanation’s substance by the members of the general assembly. 12 This bill expands the definition of cosmetology to include 13 shaving or trimming a beard. The bill allows a licensed 14 cosmetologist to shave or trim a beard using a straight edge 15 razor after submitting to the board of cosmetology arts and 16 sciences proof of having been trained in the use of a straight 17 edge razor in compliance with applicable rules of the board. 18 Cosmetologists in Iowa are licensed by the board of 19 cosmetology arts and sciences.
