1.
Section
657A.10A,
subsection
6,
Code
2018,
is
1
amended
to
read
as
follows:

6.
If
a
city
files
a
petition
under
subsection
1
,
naming
the
3
holder
of
a
tax
sale
certificate
of
purchase
for
the
property
4
as
a
respondent,
the
city
shall
also
file
the
petition,
5
along
with
a
verified
statement
declaring
that
the
property
6
identified
in
the
petition
contains
an
abandoned
building,
7
with
the
county
treasurer.
Upon
receiving
the
petition
and
8
verified
statement,
If
title
is
awarded
to
the
city,
the
city
9
shall
notify
the
county
treasurer
,
who
shall
make
an
entry
in
10
the
county
system
canceling
the
sale
of
the
property
and
shall
11
refund
the
purchase
money
to
the
tax
sale
certificate
holder.

EXPLANATION

The
inclusion
of
this
explanation
does
not
constitute
agreement
with

the
explanation’s
substance
by
the
members
of
the
general
assembly.

Currently,
when
a
city
in
which
an
abandoned
building
is
16
located
petitions
the
court
to
enter
a
judgment
awarding
title
17
of
an
abandoned
property
to
the
city,
the
city
must
file
its
18
petition
and
a
verified
statement
declaring
that
the
property
19
has
an
abandoned
building
with
the
county
treasurer.
Upon
this
20
filing,
the
county
treasurer
enters
a
cancellation
of
the
sale
21
of
the
property
and
refunds
the
purchase
money
to
the
tax
sale
22
certificate
holder.
Under
this
bill,
the
county
treasurer
23
instead
cancels
the
sale
and
makes
the
refund
when
the
title
to
24
the
property
is
awarded
to
the
city.
The
bill
requires
a
city
25
to
notify
the
county
treasurer
of
such
an
award.
