1.
Section
285.1,
Code
2018,
is
amended
by
adding
1
the
following
new
subsection:

NEW
SUBSECTION
.
23.
a.
The
board
of
directors
of
a
school

district
may
extend
the
one-way
riding
time
for
an
elementary
4
pupil,
who
is
entitled
to
transportation
pursuant
to
subsection
5
1,
between
the
designated
stop
and
the
school
designated
for
6
attendance
from
sixty
minutes
to
seventy-five
minutes.

b.
The
board
of
directors
of
a
school
district
may
extend
8
the
one-way
riding
time
for
an
elementary
or
high
school
pupil,
9
who
is
entitled
to
transportation
pursuant
to
subsection
1,
10
between
the
designated
stop
and
the
school
designated
for
11
attendance
beyond
seventy-five
minutes
if
the
board
holds
two
12
public
hearings
on
a
proposed
resolution
describing
the
change
13
to
the
bus
route,
notifies
all
affected
persons
of
the
proposed
14
change
thirty
days
before
the
route
change
is
made,
and
adopts
15
the
resolution
at
the
next
regularly
scheduled
board
meeting
16
following
the
public
hearings.
The
board
shall
publish
notice
17
of
the
time
and
place
of
each
public
hearing
not
less
than
18
ten
nor
more
than
twenty
days
before
the
public
hearing
in
a
19
newspaper
of
general
circulation
in
the
school
district
and
on
20
the
school
district’s
internet
site.

c.
The
board
of
directors
of
a
school
district
may
extend
22
the
one-way
riding
time
for
an
elementary
or
high
school
pupil,
23
who
is
entitled
to
transportation
pursuant
to
subsection
1,
24
between
the
designated
stop
and
the
school
designated
for
25
attendance
or
between
the
pupil’s
designated
attendance
center
26
and
another
attendance
center
for
the
purposes
of
meeting
27
specific
educational
needs.

bill
authorizes
school
boards
to
extend
one-way
school

bus
riding
times
for
pupils
in
a
number
of
ways.

First,
a
school
board
may
extend
the
riding
time
limitation,

which
is
established
for
elementary
pupils
under
rules
adopted

state

education,
from
60
minutes
to
75
minutes.

school
board
may

the

for
an

the
board

a
