S.F. 2113 Section 1. Section 272.2, Code 2018, is amended by adding 1 the following new subsection: 2 NEW SUBSECTION . 21. Adopt rules pursuant to chapter 3 17A requiring persons holding a license, certificate, 4 authorization, or statement of recognition issued by the board 5 who provide a service to students to undergo one hour of 6 training on suicide awareness and prevention as a condition 7 of renewal of the license, certificate, authorization, or 8 statement of recognition. A person may meet this requirement 9 through independent self-review of training materials approved 10 by the board. The board may adopt rules pursuant to chapter 11 17A providing for waiver or suspension of this requirement for 12 a person who is engaged in active duty in the military or for a 13 person who is not living or practicing in this state. 14 EXPLANATION 15 The inclusion of this explanation does not constitute agreement with 16 the explanation’s substance by the members of the general assembly. 17 This bill directs the board of educational examiners 18 to adopt administrative rules that condition the renewal 19 of a license, certificate, authorization, or statement of 20 recognition issued by the board upon the holder undergoing 21 one hour of training on suicide awareness and prevention. 22 The requirement applies to persons who provide services to 23 students. The bill permits a person to meet the requirement 24 through independent self-review of training materials approved 25 by the board.
