subsection

2018,
is

amended
by
adding
the
following
new
paragraph:

.
d.
When
next
revising
rules
adopted
for
3
purposes
of
this
subsection
relating
to
statewide
health
4
literacy
academic
standards
and
twenty-first
century
learning
5
goals
for
students
in
kindergarten
through
grade
twelve,
the
6
state
board
shall
consider
including
age-appropriate
content
in
7
sexual
abuse,
sexual
assault,
and
human
trafficking
awareness
8
and
prevention
in
the
statewide
health
literacy
academic
9
standards
and
twenty-first
century
learning
goals
for
such
10
students.
The
state
board
shall
also
consider
prescribing
11
guidelines
for
the
inclusion
of
information
on
sexual
abuse,
12
sexual
assault,
and
human
trafficking
awareness
and
prevention
13
in
the
health
curriculum
offered
and
taught
under
section
14
256.11.
School
districts,
accredited
nonpublic
schools,
and
15
area
education
agencies
may
provide
age-appropriate
instruction
16
in
sexual
abuse,
sexual
assault,
and
human
trafficking
17
awareness
and
prevention
to
students
in
kindergarten
through
18
grade
twelve,
inclusive,
as
applicable.
However,
any
student
19
in
kindergarten
through
grade
twelve
shall
be
excused
from
20
instruction
in
sexual
abuse,
sexual
assault,
and
human
21
trafficking
awareness
and
prevention
offered
and
taught
in
22
accordance
with
this
paragraph,
section
256.11,
or
section
23
279.50,
upon
written
request
of
the
student’s
parent
or
24
guardian.

The
inclusion
of
this
explanation
does
not
constitute
agreement
with
27
the
explanation’s
substance
by
the
members
of
the
general
assembly.

This
bill
directs
the
state
board
of
education
to
consider
29
including
age-appropriate
content
in
sexual
abuse,
sexual
30
assault,
and
human
trafficking
awareness
and
prevention
in
the
31
statewide
health
literacy
academic
standards
and
21st
century
32
learning
goals
for
such
students,
and
to
consider
prescribing
33
guidelines
for
the
inclusion
of
such
information
in
the
34
health
curriculum
offered
and
taught
by
school
districts
and

nonpublic
schools.
The
bill
also
authorizes
school

districts,
accredited
nonpublic
schools,
and
area
education
2
agencies
to
provide
such
instruction,
but
requires
that
a

student
be
excused
from
such
instruction
if
the
student’s

parent
or
guardian
submits
a
written
request
to
excuse
the
5
student.
