Senate File 2020 - Introduced SENATE FILE 2020 BY DAWSON A BILL FOR An Act relating to the percentage of campsites in a state park 1 or preserve that may be reserved through a centralized 2 reservation system. 3 BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF IOWA: 4 TLSB 5024XS (2) 87 js/rn
S.F. 2020 Section 1. Section 461A.48, Code 2018, is amended to read 1 as follows: 2 461A.48 Camping areas. 3 1. No person shall camp in any portion of a state park or 4 preserve except in portions prescribed or designated by the 5 commission. 6 2. The commission may designate up to one hundred percent 7 of the campsites in that portion of a state park or preserve 8 designated for camping as reservable using a centralized 9 reservation system maintained or contracted for by the 10 commission. For purposes of this subsection, “centralized 11 reservation system” means a system that accepts and processes 12 reservations either online or through a call center for camping 13 and rental facilities in state parks, preserves, and recreation 14 areas. 15 EXPLANATION 16 The inclusion of this explanation does not constitute agreement with 17 the explanation’s substance by the members of the general assembly. 18 Current commission rules require the commission to make 19 reservable on the centralized reservation system at least 50 20 percent but no more than 75 percent of the total number of 21 campsites in each individual campground. 22 This bill will allow the commission to make reservable up to 23 100 percent of campsites in each individual campground. The 24 bill only affects the commission’s self-imposed upper limit 25 and does not affect the remainder of the commission’s rules 26 covering the centralized reservation system. 27 -1- LSB 5024XS (2) 87 js/rn 1/ 1
