S.F. 2001 Section 1. Section 483A.8, subsection 7, Code 2018, is 1 amended to read as follows: 2 7. A person who is issued a youth deer hunting license 3 and does not take a deer during the youth deer hunting season 4 may use the deer hunting license and unused tag during any 5 other firearm deer hunting season that is established by the 6 commission to take a deer of either sex . 7 EXPLANATION 8 The inclusion of this explanation does not constitute agreement with 9 the explanation’s substance by the members of the general assembly. 10 Currently, residents of Iowa who are at least 12 but no older 11 than 16 years of age may obtain youth deer hunting licenses and 12 accompanying tags. A youth hunter who fails to take a deer 13 during the youth deer season may use the youth deer license and 14 unused tag during the early or late muzzleloader and one of the 15 two shotgun seasons, but not during any other seasons. 16 This bill removes the seasonal limitations for hunting while 17 using a youth deer license. The bill provides that a youth 18 hunter may use a youth deer license and tag during any deer 19 hunting season, regardless of weapon requirements or other 20 restrictions. 21 -1- LSB 5296XS (1) 87 js/rn 1/ 1
