1.
Section
256.7,
subsection
21,
paragraph
b,
1
subparagraph
(1),
Code
2018,
is
amended
to
read
as
follows:

(1)
Rules
adopted
pursuant
to
this
subsection
shall
specify
3
that
the
approved
district-wide
statewide
assessment
of
student
4
progress
administered
by
school
districts
for
purposes
of
the
5
core
academic
indicators
shall
be
the
assessment
utilized
by
6
school
districts
statewide
in
the
school
year
beginning
July
7
1,
2011,
or
a
successor
assessment
approved
by
the
state
board
8
for
school
years
beginning
on
or
after
July
1,
2018
assessment
9
developed
by
the
Iowa
testing
program
within
the
university
of
10
Iowa
college
of
education
and
administered
by
the
Iowa
testing
11
program’s
designee
.

Sec.
2.
EFFECTIVE
DATE.
This
Act,
being
deemed
of
immediate
13
importance,
takes
effect
upon
enactment.

EXPLANATION

The
inclusion
of
this
explanation
does
not
constitute
agreement
with
16
the
explanation’s
substance
by
the
members
of
the
general
assembly.

This
bill
directs
the
state
board
of
education
to
adopt
rules
18
specifying
that
the
statewide
assessment
of
student
progress
19
administered
by
school
districts
for
purposes
of
the
core
20
academic
indicators
shall
be
the
assessment
developed
by
the
21
Iowa
testing
program
within
the
university
of
Iowa
college
22
of
education
and
administered
by
the
Iowa
testing
program’s
23
designee.
The
bill
strikes
language
providing
that
the
24
successor
assessment
for
school
years
beginning
July
1,
2018,
25
be
approved
by
the
state
board.
26
The
bill
takes
effect
upon
enactment.
