S.F. _____ H.F. _____ Section 1. Section 272.7, subsection 1, Code 2018, is 1 amended to read as follows: 2 1. A license issued under board authority is valid for the 3 period of time for which it is issued, unless the license is 4 suspended or revoked. A license issued by the board is valid 5 until the last day of the practitioner’s birth month in the 6 year in which the license expires. No permanent licenses shall 7 be issued. A person employed as a practitioner shall hold a 8 valid license with an endorsement for the type of service for 9 which the person is employed. This section does not limit 10 the duties or powers of a school board to select or discharge 11 practitioners or to terminate practitioners’ contracts. A 12 professional development program, except for a program offered 13 by a practitioner preparation institution or area education 14 agency and approved by the state board of education, must 15 possess a valid license for the types of programs offered. 16 EXPLANATION 17 The inclusion of this explanation does not constitute agreement with 18 the explanation’s substance by the members of the general assembly. 19 This bill eliminates a provision that requires the 20 expiration date of a license issued by the board of educational 21 examiners to be the last day of the license holder’s birth 22 month. 23 -1- LSB 5178XD (3) 87 kh/rj 1/ 1
