amended
to
read
as
follows:

Information
shall
be
timely
transmitted
weekly,
as

designated
by
the
board
and
advisory
council
by
rule,
unless

the
board
grants
an
extension.
The
board
may
grant
an
5
extension
if
either
of
the
following
occurs:

amended

as

This
section
shall
not
apply
to
a
prescribing

practitioner
furnishing,
dispensing,
supplying,
or

administering
drugs
to
the
prescribing
practitioner’s
patient,
11
or
to
dispensing
by
a
licensed
pharmacy
for
the
purposes
12
purpose
of
inpatient
hospital
care,
inpatient
hospice
care
,
or
13
long-term
residential
facility
patient
care
.

EXPLANATION

The
inclusion
of
this
explanation
does
not
constitute
agreement
with
16
the
explanation’s
substance
by
the
members
of
the
general
assembly.

This
bill
requires
Iowa-licensed
pharmacies
that
dispense
18
certain
controlled
substances
to
patients
both
within
and
19
outside
of
Iowa
to
report
to
the
information
program
for
drug
20
prescribing
and
dispensing
(Iowa
prescription
monitoring
21
program),
on
a
weekly
basis,
information
pertaining
to
the
22
controlled
substances
they
dispensed,
unless
the
board
of
23
pharmacy
grants
an
extension.
The
bill
also
removes
the
24
reporting
exemptions
previously
granted
to
prescribing
25
practitioners
dispensing,
supplying,
or
administering
drugs
to
26
their
own
patients
and
pharmacies
dispensing
for
the
purposes
27
of
inpatient
hospital
care
or
long-term
residential
facility
28
patient
care,
but
retains
the
reporting
exemption
for
licensed
29
pharmacies
dispensing
for
the
purpose
of
inpatient
hospice
30
care.
