amended
to
read

as
follows:

Motor
trucks
and
towed
vehicles

The
driver
of
any
motor
truck,
including
but
not
limited
to
5
a
motor
truck
using
cooperative
adaptive
cruise
control
or
any
6
other
automated
driving
technology
approved
by
the
department
7
to
travel
in
a
connected
platoon,
or
of
a
motor
vehicle
drawing
8
another
vehicle,
when
traveling
upon
a
roadway,
outside
of
a
9
business
or
residence
district
shall
not
follow
within
three
10
hundred
feet
of
another
motor
truck,
or
of
a
motor
vehicle
11
drawing
another
vehicle.
The
provisions
of
this
section
shall
12
not
be
construed
to
prevent
overtaking
and
passing
nor
shall
13
the
same
apply
upon
any
lane
specially
designated
for
use
by
14
motor
trucks.

EXPLANATION
16
The
inclusion
of
this
explanation
does
not
constitute
agreement
with
17
the
explanation’s
substance
by
the
members
of
the
general
assembly.

Current
law
prohibits
the
driver
of
a
motor
truck
from
19
following
within
300
feet
of
another
motor
truck
when
traveling
20
upon
a
roadway
outside
of
a
business
or
residence
district.
21
This
bill
includes
in
that
provision
motor
trucks
using
22
cooperative
adaptive
cruise
control
or
any
other
automated
23
driving
technology
approved
by
the
department
of
transportation
24
to
travel
in
a
connected
platoon.
Under
current
law,
a
25
violation
of
the
provision
is
punishable
by
a
scheduled
fine
of
26
$100.
However,
if
the
violation
causes
a
serious
injury,
the
27
court
could
impose
a
fine
of
$500
and
suspend
the
violator’s
28
driver’s
license
or
operating
privileges
for
not
more
than
90
29
days.
If
the
violation
causes
a
death,
the
court
could
impose
30
a
fine
of
$1,000
and
suspend
the
violator’s
driver’s
license
or
31
operating
privileges
for
not
more
than
180
days.
