House Resolution 21 - Introduced HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 21 BY DOLECHECK and MOORE A Resolution recognizing and congratulating the 1 Southwestern Community College men’s basketball team 2 and program on its outstanding regional and national 3 athletic achievements. 4 WHEREAS, the Southwestern Community College men’s 5 basketball team (the Spartans) broke a school record 6 for wins in a season with a 36-1 record for the 7 2016-2017 basketball season; and 8 WHEREAS, the Spartans held the number one ranking 9 in the National Junior College Athlete Association 10 (NJCAA) National Polls for six weeks, including the 11 final regular season poll; and 12 WHEREAS, the Spartans won the regular season and 13 postseason NJCAA Division II Region XI Champion title, 14 qualifying for their first national tournament trip 15 since 1999; and 16 WHEREAS, the Spartans secured their first national 17 championship with a 77-53 win over Louisburg College on 18 March 25, 2017, in Danville, Illinois; and 19 WHEREAS, that victory gave the Spartans the title 20 of 2017 NJCAA Division II National Men’s Basketball 21 Champions; and 22 WHEREAS, freshman Broderic Thomas, sophomore KeShawn 23 Wilson, and sophomore Jordan Johnson were voted onto 24 the NJCAA Division II All Region First Team; and 25 WHEREAS, nine players on the Spartan team were named 26 to NJCAA Division II Academic All Region Teams; and 27 WHEREAS, Head Coach Todd Lorensen was named NJCAA 28 -1- LSB 2690HH (3) 87 hb/rn 1/ 2
H.R. 21 Division II National Coach of the Year; NOW THEREFORE, 1 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES, 2 That the House of Representatives recognizes and 3 congratulates the Southwestern Community College men’s 4 basketball team and program on its outstanding regional 5 and national athletic achievements; and 6 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this 7 Resolution be sent to Southwestern Community College 8 Men’s Basketball Team Head Coach Todd Lorensen and 9 Southwestern Community College President Barbara 10 Crittenden. 11 -2- LSB 2690HH (3) 87 hb/rn 2/ 2
