House Resolution 19 - Introduced HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 19 BY KAUFMANN A Resolution recognizing the Hoover Uncommon Public 1 Service Award winner for 2017, Representative Zach 2 Nunn. 3 WHEREAS, Herbert Hoover was both a visionary and 4 dedicated public servant and through his tireless 5 efforts millions of lives were saved in the years after 6 World War I; and 7 WHEREAS, to honor that spirit of public service the 8 Herbert Hoover Presidential Library Association has 9 created the Hoover Uncommon Public Service Award; and 10 WHEREAS, the association annually presents 11 the Hoover Uncommon Public Service Award to Iowa 12 legislators who exemplify President Hoover’s 13 humanitarian efforts and have gone above and beyond 14 the call of duty to demonstrate uncommon service and 15 commitment to the people of Iowa; and 16 WHEREAS, in 2017, the association awarded the 17 11th annual Hoover Uncommon Public Service Award to 18 Representative Zach Nunn of Bondurant, Iowa; and 19 WHEREAS, Representative Nunn brings an uncommon 20 depth of experience to the House of Representatives 21 as a decorated battlefield veteran, having served in 22 the United States Air Force and being deployed three 23 times to operations in Iraq and Afghanistan, flying 700 24 combat hours; and 25 WHEREAS, Representative Nunn also served on 26 United States Senator Charles Grassley’s staff, as a 27 legislative affairs officer for a four-star general, 28 -1- LSB 2687YH (2) 87 tr/rj 1/ 2

H.R. 19 and as Director of Cybersecurity for the White House’s 1 National Security Council, receiving the National 2 Intelligence Service Medallion for defense against 3 foreign threats; and 4 WHEREAS, Representative Nunn proudly works as a 5 citizen-representative of his hometown community, 6 volunteering at local schools and organizations and 7 assisting the area’s hungry, homeless, and migrants in 8 striving to better their own lives; NOW THEREFORE, 9 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES, 10 That the House of Representatives expresses its 11 gratitude to the Herbert Hoover Presidential Library 12 Association for the creation of the Hoover Uncommon 13 Public Service Award and congratulates Representative 14 Nunn on receiving the 2017 award. 15 -2- LSB 2687YH (2) 87 tr/rj 2/ 2
