H.F. 636 Section 1. Section 35A.13, subsection 6, Code 2017, is 1 amended by adding the following new paragraphs: 2 NEW PARAGRAPH . n. Rental housing assistance for veterans 3 who meet the definition of homeless, as set out in 42 U.S.C. 4 §11302, for payment of rental deposits and rental application 5 fees and for reimbursement of costs associated with obtaining 6 records needed for obtaining rental housing. 7 NEW PARAGRAPH . o. Expenses related to survivor outreach 8 activities supported by the department of public defense. 9 EXPLANATION 10 The inclusion of this explanation does not constitute agreement with 11 the explanation’s substance by the members of the general assembly. 12 This bill provides that moneys in the veterans trust fund may 13 be expended, upon a majority vote of the state commission of 14 veterans affairs, for rental housing assistance for homeless 15 veterans for the payment of rental deposits, rental application 16 fees, and costs associated with obtaining records needed to 17 secure rental housing, and for expenses related to survivor 18 outreach activities supported by the department of public 19 defense. 20 -1- LSB 1184HZ (2) 87 ec/rj 1/ 1
