H.F. 552 Section 1. Section 321.178, subsection 1, paragraph a, 1 unnumbered paragraph 1, Code 2017, is amended to read as 2 follows: 3 An approved driver education course as programmed by the 4 department shall consist of at least thirty clock hours of 5 classroom instruction, of which no more than one hundred eighty 6 minutes shall be provided to a student in a single day, and six 7 or more clock hours of laboratory instruction of which at least 8 three clock hours shall consist of street or highway driving. 9 An approved driver education course shall last not less than 10 three weeks, and the required clock hours of classroom and 11 laboratory instruction shall be distributed in equal amounts, 12 or as equal as practicable, among all weeks of the course. 13 Classroom instruction shall include all of the following: 14 EXPLANATION 15 The inclusion of this explanation does not constitute agreement with 16 the explanation’s substance by the members of the general assembly. 17 This bill requires approved driver education courses to 18 last not less than three weeks, and requires the clock hours 19 of classroom and laboratory instruction to be distributed in 20 equal amounts, or as equal as practicable, among all weeks of 21 the course. 22 -1- LSB 2515HV (1) 87 ns/nh 1/ 1
