H.F. 523 Section 1. Section 124.553, subsection 1, Code 2017, is 1 amended by adding the following new paragraph: 2 NEW PARAGRAPH . f. The state medical examiner or a county 3 medical examiner as appointed pursuant to section 331.801 or 4 691.5 or a medical examiner investigator recognized by the 5 office of the state medical examiner when the information 6 requested by the examiner or investigator relates to an 7 investigation being conducted by the examiner or investigator. 8 EXPLANATION 9 The inclusion of this explanation does not constitute agreement with 10 the explanation’s substance by the members of the general assembly. 11 This bill allows the board of pharmacy to provide 12 information from the drug prescribing and dispensing 13 information program, also referred to as the Iowa prescription 14 monitoring program, to the state medical examiner or a county 15 medical examiner as appointed pursuant to Code section 331.801 16 or 691.5, or a medical examiner investigator recognized by the 17 state medical examiner, when the information requested by the 18 examiner or investigator relates to an investigation being 19 conducted by the examiner. 20 -1- LSB 2267HV (2) 87 tr/nh 1/ 1
