Section
1.
Section
720.7,
subsection
1,
paragraph
a,
Code

2017,
is
amended
to
read
as
follows:

a.
“Court
employee”
means
the
same
as
defined
in
section
3
602.1101
or
a
person
providing
bailiff
or
other
law
enforcement

services
pursuant
to
section
602.1303,
subsection
4
.

The
inclusion
of
this
explanation
does
not
constitute
agreement
with

the
explanation’s

by
the
members
of
the
general
assembly.

This
bill
relates
to
the
criminal
offense
of
interference

with
judicial
acts.

Currently,
a
person
who
harasses
a
judicial
officer,
court
11
employee,
or
a
family
member
of
a
judicial
officer
or
a
court
12
employee
in
violation
of
Code
section
708.7,
with
the
intent
13
to
interfere
with
or
improperly
influence,
or
in
retaliation
14
for,
the
official
acts
of
a
judicial
officer
or
court
employee,
15
commits
interference
with
judicial
acts.
16
The
bill
expands
the
definition
of
“court
employee”
to
17
include
persons
the
county
provides
to
the
court
pursuant
to
18
Code
section
602.1303(4),
to
provide
bailiff
and
other
law
19
enforcement
services.
20
Interference
with
judicial
acts
is
classified
as
an
21
aggravated
misdemeanor.
