Section 232.116, subsection 1, paragraph e, 1 subparagraph (2), Code 2017, is amended to read as follows: 2 (2) The child has been removed from or was not placed in 3 the physical custody of the child’s parents for a period of at 4 least six consecutive months. 5 Sec. 2. Section 232.116, subsection 1, paragraph f, 6 subparagraph (3), Code 2017, is amended to read as follows: 7 (3) The child has been removed from or was not placed in the 8 physical custody of the child’s parents for at least twelve of 9 the last eighteen months, or for the last twelve consecutive 10 months and any trial period at home has been less than thirty 11 days. 12 Sec. 3. Section 232.116, subsection 1, paragraph h, 13 subparagraph (3), Code 2017, is amended to read as follows: 14 (3) The child has been removed from or was not placed in the 15 physical custody of the child’s parents for at least six months 16 of the last twelve months, or for the last six consecutive 17 months and any trial period at home has been less than thirty 18 days. 19 EXPLANATION 20 The inclusion of this explanation does not constitute agreement with 21 the explanation’s substance by the members of the general assembly. 22 This bill relates to grounds for the termination of parental 23 rights under Code chapter 232 when a child has been adjudicated 24 a child in need of assistance. 25 The bill amends existing grounds for termination of parental 26 rights that each include as an element that the child has been 27 removed from the physical custody of the child’s parent for 28 a specified period of time.
