H.F. 264 Section 1. Section 372.13, subsection 10, Code 2017, is 1 amended to read as follows: 2 10. A council member, during the term for which that member 3 is elected, is not precluded from holding the office of chief 4 of the volunteer fire department if the fire department serves 5 an area with a population of not more than two thousand or from 6 serving the volunteer fire department without compensation in 7 any other position or capacity . A person holding the office 8 of chief of such a volunteer fire department at the time of the 9 person’s election to the city council may continue to hold the 10 office of chief of the fire department during the city council 11 term for which that person was elected. 12 EXPLANATION 13 The inclusion of this explanation does not constitute agreement with 14 the explanation’s substance by the members of the general assembly. 15 This bill allows city council members to serve a city’s 16 volunteer fire department without compensation in any position 17 or capacity. 18 -1- LSB 2281YH (2) 87 aw/nh 1/ 1
