H.F. 256 Section 1. Section 261E.6, subsection 1, Code 2017, is 1 amended to read as follows: 2 1. Program established. The postsecondary enrollment 3 options program is established to promote rigorous academic or 4 career and technical pursuits and to provide a wider variety 5 of options to high school students by enabling ninth and 6 tenth grade students who have been identified by the school 7 district as gifted and talented, and eleventh and twelfth 8 grade students, to enroll in eligible courses at an eligible 9 postsecondary institution of higher learning as a part-time 10 student. 11 Sec. 2. Section 261E.7, subsection 2, Code 2017, is amended 12 by striking the subsection. 13 EXPLANATION 14 The inclusion of this explanation does not constitute agreement with 15 the explanation’s substance by the members of the general assembly. 16 This bill strikes a provision that prohibits a student from 17 enrolling on a full-time basis in an eligible postsecondary 18 institution under the postsecondary enrollment options program. 19 The provision penalizes full-time enrollment by providing that 20 a student enrolled on such a full-time basis shall not receive 21 any payments under the program.
