COMMITTEE.

1.
The
legislative
council
is
requested
to
establish
an
3
interim
study
committee
to
evaluate,
study,
and
review
the
4
administration
of
the
criminal
justice
system
by
utilizing
a
5
justice
reinvestment
process.

2.
The
committee
shall
engage
the
justice
center
of
7
the
council
of
state
governments
and
collaborate
with
8
representatives
appointed
by
the
judicial
branch,
department
9
of
corrections,
department
of
justice,
department
of
10
public
safety,
Iowa
county
attorneys
association,
and
other
11
stakeholders
and
shall
review
and
consider
data
relating
to
the
12
administration
of
the
criminal
justice
system
with
the
goals
13
of
improving
public
safety,
reducing
corrections
and
related
14
criminal
justice
spending,
decreasing
crime,
and
reducing
15
recidivism.

3.
The
committee
shall
consist
of
three
members
appointed
17
by
the
majority
leader
of
the
senate,
two
members
appointed
18
by
the
minority
leader
of
the
senate,
three
members
appointed
19
by
the
speaker
of
the
house
of
representatives,
and
two
20
members
appointed
by
the
minority
leader
of
the
house
of
21
representatives.

4.
The
committee
shall
issue
a
report
to
the
general
23
assembly
containing
its
findings
and
recommendations
by
January
24
1,
2019.

This
bill
requests
that
the
legislative
council
establish

an
interim
study
committee
to
evaluate,
study,
and
review
the
30
administration
of
the
criminal
justice
system
and
utilize
a

justice
reinvestment
process.
The
bill
provides
that
the

committee
shall
engage
the
justice
center
of
the
council

governments
