H.F. 239 Section 1. Section 321.1, Code 2017, is amended by adding 1 the following new subsection: 2 NEW SUBSECTION . 76A. “Sports car” means a motor vehicle 3 capable of exceeding one hundred thirty miles per hour and 4 originally manufactured with one door on the driver’s side of 5 the vehicle, one door on the passenger’s side of the vehicle, 6 and a front bumper that sits eight inches from the ground or 7 less. 8 Sec. 2. Section 321.37, subsection 2, Code 2017, is amended 9 to read as follows: 10 2. Registration plates issued for a A motor vehicle 11 which is model year 1948 or older, and is reconstructed or 12 specially constructed vehicles built to resemble a model year 13 1948 vehicle or older, is a sports car, or is registered as 14 an antique vehicle under section 321.115, other than a truck 15 registered for more than five tons, autocycle, motorcycle, or 16 truck tractor, may display one registration plate on the rear 17 of the vehicle if the other registration plate issued to the 18 vehicle is carried in the vehicle at all times when the vehicle 19 is operated on a public highway. 20 EXPLANATION 21 The inclusion of this explanation does not constitute agreement with 22 the explanation’s substance by the members of the general assembly. 23 Current law permits motor vehicles which are model year 24 1948 or older, or reconstructed or specially constructed to 25 resemble a model year 1948 vehicle or older, other than a truck 26 registered for more than five tons, autocycle, motorcycle, or 27 truck tractor, to display one registration plate on the rear 28 of the vehicle if the other registration plate issued to the 29 vehicle is carried in the vehicle at all times when the vehicle 30 is operated on a public highway. 31 This bill applies that provision to sports cars and antique 32 vehicles. The bill defines “sports car” to mean a vehicle 33 capable of exceeding 130 miles per hour and originally 34 manufactured with one door on the driver’s side of the vehicle, 35 -1- LSB 2299YH (2) 87 ns/nh 1/ 2
H.F. 239 one door on the passenger’s side of the vehicle, and a front 1 bumper that sits eight inches from the ground or less. Under 2 current law, an antique vehicle is a vehicle 25 years old or 3 older that is registered under Code section 321.115. 4 -2- LSB 2299YH (2) 87 ns/nh 2/ 2
