hospice
program
or
facility,
an

assisted
living
facility,
or
a
residential
care
facility,
with

notice
of
the
death
to
a
physician,
advanced
registered
nurse

practitioner,
or
physician
assistant.

2.
Section
148C.4,
subsection
1,
Code
2017,
is
amended
11
to
read
as
follows:

1.
A
physician
assistant
may
perform
medical
services
13
when
the
services
are
rendered
under
the
supervision
of
a
14
physician.
A
physician
assistant
student
may
perform
medical
15
services
when
the
services
are
rendered
within
the
scope
of
an
16
approved
program.
For
the
purposes
of
this
section
,
“medical
17
services
when
the
services
are
rendered
under
the
supervision
18
of
a
physician”
includes
making
a
pronouncement
of
death
for
19
a
patient
whose
death
is
anticipated
if
the
death
occurs
20
in
a
licensed
hospital,
a
licensed
health
care
facility,
21
a
correctional
institution
listed
in
section
904.102,
a
22
Medicare-certified
home
health
agency,
or
a
Medicare-certified
23
hospice
program
or
facility,
with
notice
of
the
death
to
a
24
physician
and
in
accordance
with
the
directions
of
a
physician.

The
inclusion
of
this
explanation
does
not
constitute
agreement
with

the
explanation’s
substance
by
the
members
of
the
general
assembly.

This
bill
adds
correctional
institutions
under
the
control
29
of
the
department
of
corrections,
as
enumerated
in
Code
section
30
904.102,
to
the
list
of
places
where
a
nurse
or
a
physician
31
assistant
may
make
a
pronouncement
of
death
for
a
patient
32
whose
death
is
anticipated.
Currently,
nurses
and
physician
33
assistants
working
in
these
institutions
must
request
a
doctor
34
to
make
pronouncements
of
death.
