H.F. 2159 Section 1. Section 91A.5A, subsection 1, Code 2018, is 1 amended to read as follows: 2 1. An employer shall provide each employee who is a an 3 eligible veteran , as defined in section 35.1 , with holiday 4 time off for Veterans Day, November 11, if the employee would 5 otherwise be required to work on that day, as provided in this 6 section . For purposes of this section, “eligible veteran” 7 means a veteran, as defined in section 35.1, and includes a 8 former member of the reserve forces of the United States or 9 Iowa national guard who has served at least four years in the 10 reserve forces or national guard and who was discharged under 11 honorable conditions. 12 EXPLANATION 13 The inclusion of this explanation does not constitute agreement with 14 the explanation’s substance by the members of the general assembly. 15 This bill provides that a former member of the reserve forces 16 of the United States or the Iowa national guard who has served 17 at least four years and who was discharged under honorable 18 conditions is eligible to take holiday time off for Veterans 19 Day as provided in Code section 91A.5A. 20 -1- LSB 5723YH (3) 87 ec/rh 1/ 1
