H.F. 2071 Section 1. Section 260C.36, subsection 4, paragraph a, Code 1 2018, is amended by striking the paragraph. 2 Sec. 2. Section 260C.47, Code 2018, is amended by striking 3 the section and inserting in lieu thereof the following: 4 260C.47 Accreditation of community colleges —— programs. 5 Each community college shall be accredited by the higher 6 learning commission. In addition, specific programs offered by 7 the community college may be accredited by other accrediting 8 agencies. 9 Sec. 3. REPEAL. Section 260C.48, Code 2018, is repealed. 10 EXPLANATION 11 The inclusion of this explanation does not constitute agreement with 12 the explanation’s substance by the members of the general assembly. 13 This bill eliminates the state accreditation process for 14 community colleges established by the state board of education 15 and implemented by the department of education in accordance 16 with Code sections 260C.47 and 260C.48. The process was 17 required to be integrated with the accreditation process of the 18 higher learning commission. The bill continues the requirement 19 that community colleges be accredited by the higher learning 20 commission and provides that specific programs offered by 21 the community college may be accredited by other accrediting 22 agencies. 23 -1- LSB 5886YH (2) 87 kh/jh 1/ 1
