H.F. 162 Section 1. NEW SECTION . 724.4D Limitation on employers —— 1 firearms and ammunition. 2 1. For purposes of this section, “employee” includes a 3 contract employee or volunteer. 4 2. An employer shall not prohibit an employee from carrying, 5 transporting, or possessing a firearm or ammunition, if the 6 firearm and ammunition are out of sight and inside the locked 7 motor vehicle of the employee on the real property comprising 8 the place of employment, and if the carrying, transportation, 9 or possession of the firearm or ammunition is otherwise lawful 10 under the laws of this state. 11 EXPLANATION 12 The inclusion of this explanation does not constitute agreement with 13 the explanation’s substance by the members of the general assembly. 14 This bill relates to the carrying, transportation, or 15 possession of a firearm or ammunition in a motor vehicle at a 16 place of employment. 17 Under the bill, an employer shall not prohibit an employee 18 from carrying, transporting, or possessing a firearm or 19 ammunition, if the firearm and ammunition are out of sight 20 and inside the locked motor vehicle of the employee on the 21 real property comprising the place of employment, and if the 22 carrying, transportation, or possession of the firearm or 23 ammunition is otherwise lawful under the laws of this state. 24 The bill defines “employee” to include a contract employee 25 or volunteer. 26 -1- LSB 2061YH (2) 87 jm/rj 1/ 1
