S.F. _____ Section 1. ALZHEIMER’S AND OTHER DEMENTIAS —— PUBLIC 1 AWARENESS CAMPAIGN —— APPROPRIATION. There is appropriated 2 from the general fund of the state to the department of public 3 health for the fiscal year beginning July 1, 2016, and ending 4 June 30, 2017, the following amount or so much thereof as is 5 necessary for the purposes designated: 6 For the public purpose of providing a grant to an 7 organization that is the Iowa chapter of a national nonprofit 8 organization that is the leading voluntary health organization 9 in Alzheimer’s care, support, and research and provides 10 vital services, education, and support to people living with 11 Alzheimer’s as well as their family members and caregivers, to 12 develop and implement a public awareness campaign as specified 13 in this section: 14 . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . $ 100,000 15 The moneys appropriated in this section shall be used 16 to support a statewide campaign through partnerships with 17 entities including but not limited to the department of public 18 health, the department on aging, the office of long-term care 19 ombudsman, area agencies on aging, faith-based communities, 20 business and corporate associations, chambers of commerce, 21 professional and trade associations, the medical community, and 22 nontraditional partners to increase public awareness and reduce 23 the stigma of Alzheimer’s and other dementias; to support 24 those living with Alzheimer’s and other dementias, as well 25 as their families and caregivers; to provide evidence-based 26 information about Alzheimer’s and other dementias regarding 27 early detection, accurate diagnosis, warning signs, brain 28 health, advance planning, and other related issues; and to 29 empower communities to take action and be agents of change in 30 addressing Alzheimer’s and other dementias. 31 EXPLANATION 32 The inclusion of this explanation does not constitute agreement with 33 the explanation’s substance by the members of the general assembly. 34 This bill appropriates $100,000 from the general fund 35 -1- LSB 5618XC (3) 86 pf/nh 1/ 2
