S.F. _____ Section 1. Section 257.39, subsection 1, Code 2015, is 1 amended to read as follows: 2 1. “Returning dropouts” are resident pupils who have been 3 enrolled in a public or nonpublic school in any of grades 4 seven kindergarten through twelve who withdrew from school 5 for a reason other than transfer to another school or school 6 district and who subsequently enrolled in a public school in 7 the district. 8 Sec. 2. Section 257.39, subsection 2, unnumbered paragraph 9 1, Code 2015, is amended to read as follows: 10 “Potential dropouts” are resident pupils who are enrolled 11 in a public or nonpublic school in any of grades kindergarten 12 through twelve who demonstrate poor school adjustment as 13 indicated by two or more of the following: 14 EXPLANATION 15 The inclusion of this explanation does not constitute agreement with 16 the explanation’s substance by the members of the general assembly. 17 This bill expands the definitions of returning dropouts 18 and potential dropouts for purposes of returning dropout and 19 dropout prevention programs and services; program plans, 20 budgets, and appropriate uses of funding for such programs and 21 services; and for requests for and use of modified supplemental 22 amounts for such programs and services. 23 -1- LSB 1483XC (1) 86 kh/rj 1/ 1
